Sizzling Chinese Pepper Steak with Onions

Ingredients

Yields 4 servings

Steak

  • 1 lb beef strips (sirloin or ribeye) (450g)
  • 2 tbsp light olive oil (30g)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger (15g)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (15g)
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) (15g)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Sauce

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (30g)
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce (optional) (30g)
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce (30g)
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar (30g)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (15g)

Onions

  • 1 large onion (sliced)
  • 1 tbsp light olive oil (15g)

    STEAK

    Prepare the marinade by whisking together soy sauce, oyster sauce, grated ginger, minced garlic, and sesame oil in a bowl.

    Toss the beef strips in the marinade and let sit for 10-15 minutes.

    SAUCE

    In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch. Set aside.

    ONIONS

    Heat 1 tbsp light olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.

    Add sliced onions and sauté until soft and slightly caramelized.

    Season with salt and pepper, then remove from the pan and set aside.

    In the same pan, heat 2 tbsp light olive oil over high heat. Add the marinated beef strips and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until browned.

    Pour the sauce over the beef and let simmer until it thickens.
